The rules that catch people out

Clear bags onlyMandatory

Garbage must go in a clear, transparent bag. Tinted bags, including blue, green, and black, will not be collected. Up to 3 opaque privacy bags (25L max each) are allowed inside a clear bag for sensitive items.

Bag limits8 per unit, biweekly

Properties with 6 or fewer units get 8 clear bags per unit every two weeks (through December 31, 2027). Weekly-collection properties are limited to 3 bags per unit per week. Each bag maxes out at 13.6 kg (30 lbs) or 90 litres.

Curb timingBy 7 am, not before 6 pm prior day

Set bags out no earlier than 6 pm the night before collection, and no later than 7 am on collection day. Anything not picked up must be removed from the curb by 8 pm.

Green BinWeekly, garbage is biweekly

Green Bin organics collection runs every week for eligible households and approved condos, on the opposite cadence from garbage, which runs every other week.

Large itemsMonthly, April to September

Items over 13.6 kg (30 lbs) and longer than 1 m (3 ft). TVs, computers, electronics, propane tanks, tires, fuel tanks, and construction or demolition waste are not accepted here, take those to the Household Hazardous Waste Depot instead.

Hazardous waste & recycling depots400 & 390 Pido Rd

Household Hazardous Waste Depot (400 Pido Rd) takes TVs, electronics, paint, and batteries. The Recycling Drop-Off Depot (390 Pido Rd) is for bagged recyclables that need to be emptied out.

Downtown Business Improvement AreaDifferent rules entirely

DBIA properties get up to 6 bags per collection day (12/week), and must be set out 5-10 pm on collection day, not by 7 am like standard residential collection. Same clear-bag requirement applies.
